Back on the East Coast, Catching Up On Sleep

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I got back from CES yesterday, taking the red-eye into Dulles and spending most of the morning asleep in bed.
Overall, the show was okay. Like every year, it's busy, but due to the amount of "news" that comes out, I spent most of my time in the press room, writing up stories and turning around slideshows.
From when I arrived on Saturday night until Wednesday evening, I literally spent most of my hours working. Yeah, I slept some, but from the West Coast timezone (gotta get stories live for East Coast ASAP) and the events at night, CES makes for some long days.
The work obviously pays off, as CE Pro had a number of good traffic days.
Besides the reporting, it was nice to meet a few people in the industry. I had a nice chat with Patrick Norton of Tekzilla, caught up with Dave Zatz and met Ben Drawbaugh of EngadgetHD (and team).
Outside of the industry, I got my picture taken with Big Papi David Ortiz and saw Brian Williams do the nightly news.
Thankfully, there aren't any tradeshows coming up for me … at least not until EHX Spring, March 11-15 in Orlando.
Killing Trees, One Press Release at a Time
Posted by junger | October 23rd, 2007
I get a lot of press releases — it's part of the job.
I can handle inbox overflow, but I cannot stand receiving snail-mail envelopes stuffed with press releases, catalogs and photos of products. It's completely unnecessary!
Nearly every paper press release I get goes directly into my trash can. Thanks, marketing departments, for killing trees.
The worst offenders are exhibitors at tradeshows. Give me thumb drive! Or even a CD! There's no way in hell I'm shlepping around your 2 lb. press materials with all of the other releases I've gotten.
Paper press releases have gone the way of the dinosaur. Get with the program.
Haven't you ever heard of an attachment? What about a PDF?
Make your email press release attractive to me: tell me "the news" in the subject line, paste a text (not HTML) version of the press release into the email, and leave it there.
I'm not a super treehugger or anything, but how much paper is wasted on sending me stuff that I'm going to end up junking in the end? Too much!
Send me email press releases. Not paper ones. Please.
