360ps3.jpgI'm stuck at a standstill, and I'm not sure I'll be able to move forward until I have your help.

For the past few weeks, I've been debating between purchasing an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3. Both are attractive for separate reasons — and I cannot get both.

Here's my situation. I need your help.

Xbox 360

Cheaper. But which model? HDMI is preferred.

Rock Band. Will hard drive-less Arcade model have enough space for DLC?

Media Center Extender. But would need to run powerline to add to network.

Better games. But I don't really have time to get into hardcore games. Scene It is more attractive.

PlayStation 3

More expensive.

Blu-ray. Won the format war, but I don't buy (or rent) movies that much.

Rock Band. But can't use my PS2 guitar, which is moronic.

Free Online Play. But would I buy any other games?

Tell Me What to Do

You guys have given me good advice in the past — help me out again.

  1. I love my Xbox360 and if I had to replace it today, I'd probably stick with the 360 over the PS3 because of the games, availability and support for media center primarily. At the same time, this red ring of death issue hasn't gone away and after having to swap out two different units, I'm not sure that it makes a lot of sense to build your gaming infrastructure (extra controllers, rock band guitar, video games, etc) around a piece of hardware that isn't likely to survive for longer than 24 months. If you already have a bunch of 360 games and hardware, I'd tell you to stick with Xbox, but if you don't, then you might be better off spending the money on the Sony and having something that will ast longer.

  2. Save your money and take a fun trip instead.
