I Have No Voice. On Being (Essentially) Mute.

I'm coming down/fighting off a cold right now, and it's basically taken away my voice.

It's not a fun situation, especially when you have to explain to everyone you see that, well, you lost your voice.

The phone calls are even worse — I sound pretty gruff, so when I'm on the phone with someone, either they don't recognize me or they can't understand me.

When you don't have a voice, you do a lot of listening, which is always a good thing. Without sounding overly dramatic (which I may have already done with the title of this post), you experience the world differently when you can't express yourself in normal means.

If you can't be understood, well, communication is certainly difficult.

At least in the (text) blogosphere, it's only the words on the screen that matter.
