The Battle For Monday Night: Jack Bauer vs. Heroes

I've been a die-hard 24 fan since I began watching the show (I even had a Jack Bauer profile on facebook for awhile, at least until they deleted it).

But Jack has some competition this year from one of the best new shows on TV: Heroes.

This show has everything going for it. It's fresh, it's compelling, it's interesting and it's leaving me wanting more every week. NBC has done an amazing job establishing a fan base by putting full-length episodes online and even created tongue-in-cheek viral marketing efforts.

24, on the other hand, is getting kind of old. We've seen the plots. We've seen the action. We love Kiefer, but we need something new — and I don't mean Audrey Raines.

Both shows run at 9 pm, and we're in bed long before the end of the 10 pm hour. So while we DVR Heroes, we don't watch it until Tuesday night.

There goes the Heroes watercooler talk.

24 is still my show, but Heroes is really making me consider saving Jack until Tuesday night.

  1. No conflict in my household, I TiVo both and have been storing up all of the 24 to liveblog in 24 hours. I know that everyone says that it has jumped the shark, but I can't wait to see season 6 in Jack Bauer time :) So far I have been able to avoid spoilers, though I was disappointed to see that Keifer signed on for another 3 seasons because every year I'm scared they really will kill Jack off. That show is crazy like that. Knowing about the extension will take away some of the tension, but I'm hoping to find out about some electrocution, so that I can try to work out a deal with Taser to sponsor the event :)

  2. Watching the episodes straight through is the best, but I have to say I'm impressed that you've remained spoiler free as a fan of the show (I tried that once with Alias after I started catching up on DVD, and it didn't work out too well).

I don't think that 24 has jumped the shark per se, but it has seemed a little poorly planned, and the producers even admit that. We just need something different from Jack.
