The Price of Time: Freelance vs. Startup

Any time a blogger doesn't post for some time, the requisite "life has been busy" post seems to pop up.

And while I'm certainly guilty of it myself — especially after arguing why you should blog everyday — time is costly. The price of your time has to be weighed for maximum value.

Currently, I'm doing some steady freelance work (in addition to my 9-5), which I can bill and get paid for without worry. It's guaranteed money (like online savings accounts).

The cost of doing freelance work, however, is that I don't have as much time to work on my own startup projects, including this blog. It's unfortunate – obviously, I'd like to do it all, but despite the 43 hour study, there's still not enough time in the day.

Freelancing pays more right now than the startups do. I don't like the fact that I'm neglecting my own work, but the freelance gig is happening now, and if I don't take advantage of it, I might miss out.

The startup projects will still be there when the freelancing is over, but they'll be missing out a key factor: momentum.

But that's the price of time.

We all wish we had a little more of it.
