10 Reasons to Blog Everyday

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This post, while not totally intentional, is a bit ironic. For RSS subscribers or daily visitors to the site, you'll no doubt have noticed that the blog has not been updated in … a couple of days.

Excuses can easily be made, but rather than try and explain the lack of posts, let's break down the reasons why a blogger needs to blog everyday.

  1. To Develop a Following
A blogger will never have brandname recognition if he doesn't have regular readers, and he can't have regular readers if he doesn't have regular content to offer them. A following can be the best kind of promotion, so the more content, the more traffic.
  2. To Grow the Site
The more content, the more you have to offer your readers. Your site will only get bigger with more content — you can never have enough and, on the Web, you'll probably never run out of space to grow.
  3. To Show Commitment
Your readers want your content — that's why they keep on coming back. But if it's apparent that you aren't committed to developing that content, why should they make a commitment to read your blog? Give a little (or a lot) and get it back.
  4. To Develop a Habit
A blogger has to get into the habit of blogging everyday so that dry times are minimal. If you force yourself to blog everyday, then you'll eventually develop the habit of blogging, and it won't be forcing it any more.
  5. To Think Outside the Box
Writer's block (or blogger's block) is real, but you have to be able to work around it. If you can't think of something to blog about, think outside the box. Something will eventually come to you, and you've just developed a great ability.
  6. To Stay Timely
There's nothing less interesting on the Internet than reading a story days after it has occurred. If you have something to say about a current event, discussion or hot topic, weigh in — don't wait on it.
  7. To Create Lightening in a Bottle
You never know which articles will get picked up by Digg or a big-time blogger. The more you have, the more options there are to create that lightening in a bottle and score some good traffic.
  8. To Invest in the Product
Your blog is a product. It's not like wine that gets better sitting around untouched. You invest in it by writing (as well as promoting, optimizing, etc.) and reap the rewards of your investment. No investment equals no reward.
  9. To Improve Search Engine Rankings
The more you write, the more Google indexes. You'll start to get picked up for searches for things you never expected because of random posts. People search for everything — none of your content is useless.
  10. To Achieve Goals
For bloggers, goals are normally associated with how well their site does — and a site is nothing if not content. Produce the content, achieve the goals.
